UNC TRI

Professional Learning

The TRI provides

collaborative consultation for classroom teachers and their struggling readers in the regular classroom setting.

Both classroom teachers and students benefit from the synergy gained as teachers explore new

  • models,
  • strategies, and
  • diagnostic thinking processes for the specific benefit of one child at a time.

As teachers gain confidence in the TRI strategies and in thinking diagnostically, the development of these insights may also benefit the reading skills of other children in the class.

How do the TRI teachers collaborate and learn across the school year?

TRI teachers, an on-site school consultant, and the TRI university-based consultant collaborate through:

  • a 3-day Summer Institute,
  • Weekly TRI Team Meetings that transition to every other week,
  • Bi-Weekly webcam consultation visits during a TRI session,
  • Monthly Professional Development Modules, and
  • Online discussions and blogs.
